Captain Marvel Dancing With AI.
Hi Everyone

One of those young AI wizzkids issued a frightening warning this week when he indicated that if AI progressed at the present rate, it could eliminate humanity within the next few years. You and I can do nothing to stop it. The next day, Captain Marvel said that “The only control needed is a strong and smart (high IQ) President, and the USA has that in spades”. So there in the same week, we have totally different views of the future of the world, and we can do absolutely nothing about it. If the young wizzkid is right, I just hope that I will finally be able to reach middle age before it happens. I am not sure how AI will finish me off, but if the alternative is sitting in a circle in a care home wondering what day it is and who the person sitting next to me is, I will take that, as there will be nothing I can do about it. As far as Captain Marvel is concerned, yet another astonishing statement that would be very funny if it was part of the script of a comedy show, but this man is actually serious. It is obvious that the progress of AI will impact many lives in the future, both in a good way but also in terms of employment and for most of us there is nothing we can do to change it. With Captain Marvel's track record so far, let us hope that there is a lot of people in the USA who will do something about it at the ballot box.

It is almost seventy years ago that I stood against the back wall of a room with my then girlfriend, now the Main Contractor, with about eight other young people. The idea was that the woman in front of us was going to teach us how to dance the waltz, the quick step and the foxtrot. It took me about ten minutes to decide that counting one, two, three, four while trying to put my feet in the right place was not for me, although I did manage to master the Gay Gordons, the Hokey Cokey, and the Conga, as well as shuffle along to a waltz and stiffly move around to disco music in later years. I am reminded of all this Rubbish as this week Strictly Come Dancing is back on our TV screens for its twenty fourth series. We watched the first series, and at that time it was on for about ninety minutes on Saturday evening. Now the programme makers have decided that it needs ro be on about three or four times a week until Christmas. I know that thousands, if not millions, are avid watchers, but I will not be watching, instead attempting the odd Conga through the Lounge with the Main Contractor.
In this crazy world we live in, a committee of Members of Parliament is going to meet to find out why we do so badly in the Eurovision contest, as we finished last again this year. Apparently, the BBC select the artist and song each year, so senior people in the BBC will be called to meet the committee to offer an explanation, with the usual ridiculous cost to us taxpayers. Like many of us, I am able to offer an explanation free of charge. The ‘artists’ are mostly unknown before and completely forgotten after the contest, ‘singing’ a completely forgettable song, with the added problem that most of the countries voting don’t like us anyway. Another programme that I avoid, but on this occasion, something that I do not want to do anything about.
Just a Thought:
Why can’t AI replace managers? Because they are not designed to be useless.
Dancing is a great way to lose calories and lose whatever dignity you thought you had.
My current status. Two left feet and zero regrets.
Brian
