Making Sense of the World

Hi Everyone

ree

I heard someone say this week that to make sense of the world we live in at the moment is to escape into music, art, theatre and outdoor solitude, in my case when the weather gets warmer, it stops raining and I discover that there really is a sun up there. Oh, and I don't do hills anymore. It also involves not watching the TV or reading a newspaper but with the ever more bizarre Trump quotes we seem to have got to the situation where we cannot wait for the next what I would call opening mouth before engaging brain. When I was old enough to understand politics, although I doubt if many politicians understand politics, I thought that we lived in a democracy where we have a free vote, free speech, and where our Prime Minister has to listen to Parliamentary debate and seek a majority vote before carrying our a major action on behalf of the country and, of course, it's people. The main exceptions to that are Putin, that funny little man from North Korea and Mr. China who are all puppeteers standing above with all the strings controlling the puppets below them. It seems that they have a new member to make the Fab Four thinking that they can control the billions below them. In American democracy, they have the Senate and the House of Representatives. Have they all gone on holiday to the Gulf of America, because all we have heard for the last four weeks is Trump and his own Fab Four. The observant readers of this Rubbish will have noted that I have stopped calling 'my friend' Donald but I will reengage with him if he engages brain before opening mouth.

It is encouraging to see that winter is slowly giving way to spring with the annual appearance of Tulips, Daffodils and Crocus in our gardens. In my small greenhouse, my tomato seeds and peppers are just pushing through the soil with the promise of a good crop of tasty, home grown food later in the year. All this Rubbish reminded me of the advice I gave to Joe last year when I suggested that instead of trying to become President again, he should do the sensible thing and spend his twilight years in his garden. Since being humiliated by Trump at his inauguration nothing has been heard from Joe so perhaps after reading my blog he has been able to enjoy some time in his garden. What he will have learned is that plants show their appreciation from your love and care unlike many of the people that he has had to deal with over the years.

Now my era had some great female singers, when they just stood in front of a microphone and sang, without a video of them apparently doing a version of the Hokey Cokey surrounded by a group of dancers also apparently doing a version of the Hokey Cokey. My favourites were Billie Holiday, Ella, Blossom Dearie, Carol Kidd, Barbara Streisand and from the more modern era, Annie Lennox. All this Rubbish is leading to something I read this week. Lady Gaga is 'singing' In Rio free of change as she has always wanted to 'sing' there. I hope that she stands with a hat in front of her. It might just cover her evening meal.

Just a Thought :

My friend is giving away a couple of puppets. No strings attached.

What do you call the world's biggest puppet show? The US presidential election.

Which singer is quickest on the sewing machine? Taylor Swift (sorry Molly)
